Soul of the Skin is an instrumental track celebrating drums, and sees another collaboration between James Asher and Sandeep Raval. It features the large djembe made by Remo. This vibrant drum enjoys a special and unique weighty and pangy sound. It comes to life in a fresh way with Sandeep`s virtuosic and dynamic style. From his early years, Sandeep studied tabla from a rhythm master, and the resulting dexterity and fluidity empowers a remarkable technique bringing this drum to life in a unique and highly infectious way. The rousing compulsive grooves enjoy an irresistible vitality. Hand drums have grown hugely in popularity, and many people have come to enjoy both playing and listening to djembe drums, both solo and also as part of group playing and drumcircles. But this one is a real mutha!
James first met Sandeep during research for the album Tigers of the Raj,Sandeep`s knowledgeable insights about Indian music and dance were an invaluable resource for this, alongside his great playing. They have enjoyed a warm and enduring friendship, frequented by wild and crazy humour. They went on to collaborate on the double album Drum Travel, and several singles projects including Wings of Time, Quantum Chili Rap and most recently Rise of the Circuits.
